Schuyler County

Schuyler County residents, mark your calendars! From September 22nd to September 29th people will take the Car-Lite Challenge.

Register for the Car- Lite Challenge and be eligible to win the grand prize. See below for more details about the Car- Lite Challenge and information about transportation resources in the county.

Each day, replace trips that you would normally take by car with walking, biking, transit, or carpooling – log your entries on our website each day and you’ll be entered to win the grand prize!

Tip #1: Take the bus. Have you checked the bus schedule to see if you can hop on the bus for part of your commute? Schuyler County Transit has 4 routes that service the villages of Odessa, Montour Falls and Watkins Glen as well as commuter routes that serve Corning, Enfield and Cayuga Medical Center. Find bus schedules at

Tip #2: Park & Walk/Ride. Consider parking your car and then taking the last 1/2 mile or so by foot or bus.

Tip #3: Car-lite grocery shopping. If you are going to go car-lite during the Challenge, then you’ll probably want to think about the way you shop for groceries. Think about what’s close to work – Tops? Walmart? What is your plan?

Use one of the following transportation resources:

Schuyler County Transit: Convenient routes between Odessa, Montour Falls and Watkins Glen, Commuter connections to Corning and Tompkins Counties!

Biking: Bike share available at Seneca Harbor Park – It’s free and easy to use.  Bikes are located to the East of The Marina Restaurant in a small Bike shed.

Carpool: Try or arrange a carpool on your own.

511NY Southern Tier Rideshare is a FREE resource to help you find carpool partners who live or work in Steuben and Chemung Counties.  When you sign up for ridematching, you’ll join other riders and drivers in a secure database.  Former Car-Lite participants have blogged that riding with someone is more enjoyable than riding alone, especially for a long distance. Save money and improve your commute when you register for carpooling!

Transportation Link Line is open Monday – Friday 9am-2:30PM and is happy to explain bus schedules, transportation options and answer any general transportation question you may have. 607-535-3555.
